Sweet Jane

is a boutique Hair Salon in Hillcrest, San Diego where luxury meets approachability

we offer the best razor and scissor Haircuts,

Blow-drys and Styling

 It all started when…

“My parents attended my Beauty School Graduation, I won this end of year award (where my sister and my boyfriend were my models!) and it was what took me to London way back in 1993, where I eventually trained at the Vidal Sassoon Academy. Looking back now, for a young Cali boy it was incredible. It’s taken me to places I never imagined it could and given me my dream career.” This is our salon and this is our story - Nicholas

“THE salon is a gathering place to converse, share ideas, and discuss the experience of life.”

Vibes

“Sweet Jane” is a song by American rock band the Velvet Underground; Lou Reed was often quoted as saying theCowboy Junkies version was his favorite.

SWEET JANE Cowboy Junkies version became a standard when owner Nick met his partner Norman, while driving in a beat-up Volvo station wagon, tunes like Misguided Angel and Blue Moon Revisited, Sweet jane became a favorite. From early years living in NYC to the West Coast the song seemed a perfect fit for their new adventure.

Sweet Jane is a luxury boutique salon space where our vibe is friendly and creative. This warm positive energy flows between our guests and our stylists’ diverse point of view. Whether scissor or razor, cut or style we Sweet Jane aim to offer you a memorable experience while customizing your next look.

The Vibe: Bohemian lived-in hair, -east coast chic meets west coast cool girl. A hangout inspired by the 60s 70s 80s NYC and 80s 90s LA street culture. Fashion icons, music, film and references like Brigit Bardot, Jane Birkin, Cher, Farrah, and Madonna and all serve as major inspo to name a few. Actually there are way too many to name…

We are inspired by Hair Heroes like Vidal Sassoon, Michael Gordon, the McClaren brothers, our friends in the industry like Corinna Hernandez at Pony Studios, Travis Speck at Sally Herschberger NYC, Kate Schlichter at Lost Hills LA, and Ramona in Paris, as well as our fave west coast Salons who value creativity and provide a safe space for stylist to grow through education and realize their own dreams.

Our space is built with custom styling stations crafted by local artisans, this allows our guests to linger, enjoy a cup of tea, open up their laptop and work or simply enjoy the music and peruse the latest mags.

We carry and use only the best products like bumble and bumble, Reverie and Cult & king. All which are certified leaping bunny.

Norman Anderson

A creative kind spirit who is beloved by everyone he meets. Norman is a natural charmer and his relationships with his friends and clients run deep. They simply love him. Norm has an extensive background in customer service as he has owned 3 restaurants and a vintage store. Two Fred and Mary’s Coffee Houses’ in Lancaster PA and Cafe Beauxarts in Annapolis MD.

In 2003 Norman moved to Nyc and opened up his beloved Past Out Vintage store in the East Village on 6th street and 2nd avenue. Colorful clients would come in and enjoy the pink and orange themed space and shop the latest vintage finds. Michael Musto, Lin Yeager, Melissa Torme, Thandie Newton left happily with vintage treasures like Oscar de la Renta, Moschino, and Chanel. This only satisfied his creative spirit to a point. He would eventually find his passion when he moved to California in 2007.

“I’ve been wanting to do hair since I lived in Nyc, I got the bug watching Nick do hair at Bumble and bumble while I was waiting for him to get off work”. “The personableness with clients and the ebb and flow of the service was recognizable and creatively desirable.” After attending Beauty School at San Diego City College’s new facility, Norm went on to find his first stylist position at Hairdrezzers on Fire on Adams ave in 2011 building his loyal customer base for 5 years. Now He joins Nick with the opening of Sweet Jane Salon.
